Strategic Goal 1:
Provide service to Rural American Special Educators, human service providers, and students and individuals with exceptional needs.Strategies
- Increase membership
- Increase membership of individuals at Colleges and Universities
- Increase state memberships and memberships of individuals at State Departments
- Increase memberships of service providers
- Increase memberships of Parents
- Increase memberships of Other Related Organizations and of individuals in other related organizations.
- Increase memberships of teachers
- Increase and enhance relationships with other organizations
- Identify and codify these organizations by type and extent
- Develop policies for joint efforts
- Review need for expertise listing by state
- Review potential for consultants/speakers bureau
- Consider establishment of marketing and external committees
- Consider multi-year and life memberships
Strategic Goal 2:
Provide services to ACRES individual and organizational members.Strategies
- Provide effective services to members
- Strive for timely/regular publications
- Recommend an immediate benefit
- Develop SIGs with a benefit to members
- Plan and conduct ACRES annual conference and business meeting.
- Seek strong local support (committees, universities, state government)
- Review program focus to seek new audiences
- Cross-sell all ACRES resources
- Broaden conference session topics and expertise strands
- Review strategies to increase responses
- Consider proposals on disk for uniform look to proceedings
- Consider less expensive proceedings production method
- Review conference budgeting options/fee structure
- Develop conference programming shell
- Determine need for development and distribution of additional ACRES publications.
- Review target audiences for current publications
- Develop methods for adaptations of current publications to serve additional audiences - e.g. Classroom Clips from Journal articles
- Consider new publications to meet audience needs
- Develop ways to increase submissions to publications
- Best practices monograph of Award winning programs
- Conduct needs assessment with membership confirmations
Strategic Goal 3:
Assure ACRES fiscal and organizational stability so as to meet the other goals.Strategies
- Review publications policies and procedures
- Set regular items/columns for newsletter
- Review ERIC policy
- Purge old papers
- Develop marketing plan
- Consider publications as “immediate benefit” for paid membership
- Be conscious of cross selling opportunities
- Expand use of web site for all purposes
- Establish functioning full members for committees
- Institute written Board reports prior to meetings (on web)
- Review tasks handled by volunteers that may be transferred to HQ staff
- Provide training to ACRES Board members and mentoring of prospective board members.
- Establish annual Board orientation
- Enhance communication via listserv
- Expand efforts to increase Board nominations and diverse representation
- Seek ways to identify prospective members
- Review board member position descriptions and state responsibilities
- Develop plans for increasing involvement of new and past board members
